Switching these two words.

Discipline is more important than motivation in achievement

By: Justin Williams

Discipline and motivation are often used interchangeably in the process of learning, it instantly makes me believe that the craft of progress is being dimmed. Why? Simply, they are two separate things! It would be unfair to state that they are mutually exclusive, there are gray areas where the two intertwine, and the qualities of both serve as the cornerstone of growth-yet one can intrinsically exist without the other. Here- I would like to explain that in the road of learning a new skill- motivation is to be superimposed with discipline for greater outcomes.

Perspective of the two will change an understanding of how they will be utilized during pleasurable and uncomfortable circumstances. By definition, discipline is to train by instruction. And motivation is the general desire or willingness to do something. Motivation is a noun whereas discipline can be used in an eclectic manner as a verb as well as a noun.

Getting started feels great, especially when the beginning of a new goal brings joy to one’s life. Motivation serves as the initial push to begin a goal. Discipline is the force that continues to drive one to remain consistent when change gets difficult.
